Mohanthal

Mohanthal is a traditional Gujarati dessert recipe made using gram flour. Made on festivals and auspicious occasions, this is a common dessert dish loved by people of all age groups. It has a long shelf life if you store it in air-tight containers.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup Gram flour (besan)
  • 1/4 cup khoya
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped pistachios
  • 2 teaspoon powdered green cardamom
  • 12 inches Silver vark
  • 1 cup ghee
  • 3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped almonds
  • 1/4 teaspoon saffron
  • 2 drops vanilla essence

For The Garnishing

  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped pistachios
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped almonds
How to make Mohanthal
  • Step 1

    Heat ghee in a pan over medium flame.

  • Step 2

    Add gram flour and stir well until the raw smell disappears. Sprinkle milk on top and cover the pan with a lid.

  • Step 3

    Heat a pan of water over medium flame. Add sugar and stir well until fully dissolved. When it has reached a two-string consistency, remove from flame.

  • Step 4

    Add saffron and cardamom powder. Mix well.

  • Step 5

    Add khoya, bengal gram flour and mix well until it has thickened. Add vanilla essence and pour this into a greased plate.

  • Step 6

    Smoothen the top using the back of a spoon. Garnish with almonds, pistachios and silver foil and allow it to cool.

  • Step 7

    Before it cools fully, cut into desired shapes. Serve or store it in a clear, airtight container.
